Asia Markets: Nikkei falls below 8,000 level; Sydney off 4%

Asian stocks were hammered Tuesday, with miners and the oil sector under pressure in the wake of overnight declines in commodity prices. Japan's Nikkei benchmark flirted with the 8,000 level as automakers and other exporters were hurt by the U.S. dollars decline to the mid-93-yen level.
