Live streaming: Chelsea - Portsmouth Match Preview

As you know Sunday 17 august 2008 at Macedonian TV Channels you will be able to see the match between Chelsea and Portsmouth. The match starts 14:35 CET and we hope that you will enjoy this match. We have added a preview of the match from Goal.com.Chelsea's first game of the season will attract more than the usual interest because it marks Luiz Felipe Scolari's competitive bow in English football, and there is curiosity to see how the Brazilian World Cup winner will fare in one the hottest of football's hot seats after seven years out of the club game. Opposing Scolari will be Harry Redknapp, the ultimate wheeler-dealer, whose status among the media as one of the country's national treasures was enhanced in May when he won his first major trophy: the FA Cup.Redknapp's Portsmouth held the side widely expected to be Chelsea's fiercest rivals this season - Manchester United - to a goalless draw at Wembley last weekend in the FA Community Shield, and were only beaten in a penalty shoot-out. Now, with Premier League points at stake, they must try to end Chelsea's phenomenal unbeaten home run of 82 matches.Chelsea will also be aiming to extend a 21-match unbeaten Premier League record, courtesy of Scolari's sacked predecessor, Avram Grant. Scolari will be expected to do better than Grant did, so he will need to win the Premier League, Champions League and Carling Cup, since the unappreciated Israeli was a runner-up in all three competitions. And Chelsea's haul of 85 points last season was the highest ever runners-up total in a 20-club Premier League. As for Pompey, despite their FA Cup triumph, they will be looking to avoid a fifth successive league defeat. And Scolari's competitive debut comes against a side whom Chelsea enjoy playing: Portsmouth have dropped more points (29), lost more games (nine), and conceded more goals (20) to Chelsea than to any other club since they were promoted to the Premier League back in 2003. Indeed, Pompey have gone 53 years since beating Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. They won 5-1 in the old First Division in September 1955, even though Chelsea were reigning League champions at the time.Redknapp sounded like he was getting his excuses in first when he said ahead of the Sunday lunch-time game: "We are short of three players. We may have to sell another one [to raise the money to buy], but if another one goes that's another loan I need."There is no money left to spend. The owner has backed me and I can't fault him. There are still great players here. But we stillare short of cover."His sentiments were echoed by defender Sylvain Distin, who said: "If we sign a few more players we will be a better and stronger team. Then we will have no choice but to try to finish higher and I feel we can do that." Pompey striker Jermain Defoe was upbeat about the team's chances this season, even though Pompey lost that penalty shoot-out against Manchester United after the no-score draw last Sunday. "We were fantastic defensively, it is not a bad achievement to keep a clean sheet against them [United]."Ferdinand and Vidic made it difficult for Crouchie and me, but I think we will all be that much better for the game - and ready to face Chelsea."Past EncountersAll Meetings:League (inc EPL): Chelsea 29 wins, Portsmouth 19, Draws 22EPL only: Chelsea 9 wins, Portsmouth 0, Draws 1At Stamford Bridge:League (inc EPL): Chelsea 17 wins, Portsmouth 6, Draws 12EPL only: Chelsea 5 wins, Portsmouth 0, Draws 0Last Season's Corresponding Match:25th August 2007: Chelsea 1 (Lampard) Portsmouth 0FORM GUIDEChelseaThe Blues ubdertook a mammoth tour of Asia and Russia ahead of the new season. The Asian leg was as muh a goodwillmission as a football training exercise, and Chelsea strolled to victory in each of their three matches, scoring 13 goals and conceding none in the process.Moving on to Moscow though, for the Railways Cup, things got a lot more competitive and the Blues got the benefit, drawing with hosts Lokomotiv (and losing the consequent penalty shoot-out), then thrashing Italan giants AC Milan 5-0 in the 3rd place play-off, with Nicolas Anelka scoring four goals.23rd July: Guangzhou Yiyao 0 Chelsea 426th July: Chengdu Blades 0 Chelsea 729th July: Malaysia All-Stars XI 0 Chelsea 21st August: Lokomotiv Moscow 1 Chelsea 1 (Lokomotiv won 5-4 on pens)3rd August: AC Milan 0 Chelsea 5 (in Moscow)PortsmouthPompey have had 10 pre-season games, their only defeat in open play coming against Manchester United in Nigeria when the two clubs met on their respective African tours. United shaded that game 2-1. But Pompey also beat Kano Pillars 5-0 and Ajax 2-1. The Community Shield at Wembley (0-0) was their most competitive game, and they had to absorb plenty of pressure from Manchester United before forcing the game into a shoot-out which United won 3-1, Defoe converting for Pompey. The club's other pre-season friendlies included a 1-1draw at Exeter, and victories over Swindon Town (3-1),AFC Bournemouth (4-1),Oxford United (2-1), Havant & Waterlooville (4-0), and Gosport Borough (4-1).30th July: Ajax 1 Portsmouth 24th August: Oxford United 1 Portsmouth 25th August: Havant and W 0 Portsmouth 410th August: Man Utd 0-0 Portsmouth (Man Utd won 3-1 on pens)11th August: Gosport Borough 1 Portsmouth 4TEAM NEWSChelsea Scolari will start with Nicolas Anelka as a lone striker, since Didier Drogba and Andriy Shevchenko are both injured. Fellow striker Salomon Kalou is with his national team, Ivory Coast, at the Olympics.Scolari said of Drogba, who is recovering from a knee injury: "Didier will not play in our first game and will probably miss the second against Wigan."When you have a knee injury, you just never know. He's getting better and is working with a fitness coach back at the trainingground. I hope he will be ready to start training next week but he will not play until he is in good condition," added the manager. Two players who played for Scolari in the Portugal team, Jose Bosingwa and Deco, are both set to make their Premier League debuts.Squad: Cech, Cudicini, Bosingwa, Belletti, Terry, Carvalho, Alex, A Cole, J Cole, Lampard, Essien, Ballack, Deco, Mikel, Anelka, Wright-Phillips, Malouda, di Santo.Possible Starting XI: Cech - Bosingwa, Carvalho, Terry, A Cole - J Cole, Essien, Ballack, Deco, Malouda - Anelka.Portsmouth Redknapp will have new signings Peter Crouch, Younes Kaboul and Jerome Thomas in his squad, but not Pedro Mendes who has moved to Rangers.Absentees will include Sean Davis (hip), Glen Little, Noe Pamarot (both thigh), David Nugent and Linvoy Primus (both groin) who are suffering from injuries. However, Kanu may be fit enough to take his place on the bench.Squad: James, Johnson, Campbell, Distin, Hreidarsson, Utaka, Diop, Diarra, Kranjcar, Defoe, Crouch, Lauren, Cranie, Kaboul, Thomas, Traore, Kanu, Mvuemba, Wilson, Ashdown.Possble Starting XI: James - Johnson, Campbell, Distin, Hreidarsson - Diop, Diarra, Kranjcar, Thomas - Defoe, Crouch.PLAYERS TO WATCHChelseaWith Nicolas Anelka likely to lead the attack on his own, the spotlight will be on him. Scolari said of the French striker: "Anelka has looked good in training and will play as centre forward."He played well in the friendly matches but he is quiet. If you say 'good morning' to him he will say 'good morning' back but ifyou don't he won't say anything."We need to put fire in Anelka - tell him 'look Anelka, you are very good'. Maybe this will be the season for him."PortsmouthWhile Glen Johnson and Lassana Diarra will be facing their former club, new Pompey striker Peter Crouch has returned to a previous employer, and will be making his first appearance for the South Coast club since the 2001-02 season, when he made 37 League appearances for Portsmouth and scored 18 goals before moving to Aston Villa towards the end of that campaign. Crouch will be making his 150th Premier League appearance (Villa, Southampton and Liverpool), and has a point to prove after feeling that he had to leave Anfield this summer in order to secure first-team football and protect his England place. How his new partnership with Jermain Defoe gels will also be a matter of much interest.PREDICTIONA fascinating game is in prospect at Stamford Bridge, with a glittering array of talent likely to be on show. Pompey are upwardly mobile under Redknapp, but it is hard to see them ending Chelsea's remarkable run of invincibility at the Bridge. Moreover, the Chelsea squad are playing to impress new boss Scolari. And the Brazilian has a slightly stronger squad than the one Grant had last season, one that should ensure the Blues get off to a winning start.Chelsea 2 Portsmouth 1
