Portsmouth’s hopes of claiming a Uefa Cup place by finishing fifth took a blow as they lost to Blackburn. Roque Santa Cruz got Blackburn’s winner with a low shot after a neat one-two with fellow striker Jason Roberts. Earlier, Pompey had seen Jermain Defoe twice shoot narrowly wide in a frustrating match for the home side. Jamie Ashdown excellently saved a Ryan Nelsen header but he could not keep out Santa Cruz’s shot and prevent Pompey’s third home loss of the season.
