Mumbai: After actor Manoj Kumar asked for a stay on the television premiere of Om Shanti Om, the film has run into more trouble. Scriptwriter Ajay Monga has alleged that the basic storyline of the blockbuster was copied from his idea. "When apple juice is packed in tetra and then in mixed fruit you cannot say that there is no apple in that juice at all,†he says. Monga moved the Bombay High Court against Shah Rukh Khan and director Farah Khan alleging that Om Shanti Om is a copy of his script The Silent Movie. The writer behind Madhur Bhandarkar's Bipasha Basu-starrer Corporate alleges he had mailed a script of his film to Shah Rukh Khan's production house Red Chillies Entertainment. While SRK did not get back to him, it was only after the release of Om Shanti Om did he realise there were just too many coincidences between his script and OSO. After the Cine Writers Association gave a clean chit to the producers of OSO last year, Monga decided to go to court. "There are 21 scenes in the film that are similar to my film. My protagonist is a junior artiste, he loves this superstar and he fantasises about her looking at her hoarding, he also saves her and she becomes very grateful and gives him a gift and she also decides to spend a day with him, and she comes to meet him wearing a burkha,†he says. It’s not just Monga who plans to drag the makers of Om Shanti Om to court, Bimal Roy's daughter Rinki Bhattacharaya is also considering legal action because of the apparent similarities between the Bimay Roy classic Madhumati and OSO. "I was in court, filing the suit, when I saw missed calls from Rinki Bhattacharya, I called her up and she said that she was also on board and she too was going to legal action,†says Monga. Monga's lawyer has sought an injunction from the High Court to stop the telecast of the film on Sony Television. Though the Bombay High Court has not stayed the telecast, it has asked both parties to file their reply within four weeks. read more » |
