What is Humsurfer?

Humsurfer is an Indian community news site that gives editorial controls to the people who use it.

Humsurfer does not host any content on the site. All Humsurfer stories are short descriptions which point to the original content elsewhere on the web. Bloggers and other users use Humsurfer as a platform to reach out to fellow Indians. They do it by posting their original story link or commenting on the posted stories.

Humsurfers rate the posted stories by stamping on them.

What are Stamps?  How does it help to promote stories and/or submissions to homepage?

You give the "stamp" of approval for the postings you like. The number of stamps received by the submission gives an indication of "hotness" of the story. All of the content on Humsurfer is from users who are rewarded for good submissions by their peers. So, if you like a story, Stamp it and help others get the story. Hot stories are always on the home page.

We want Humsurfer to be the source for everything that's new on the web that interests Indians: provided it can be linked, it can be submitted and is work-safe.

How to get my submissions noticed?

You must have a good title for your submission to bring your peers to the site and then a summary, a meaningful description attracting user's interest.

How to rate comments submitted by users?

Comments are sorted by the points received. So, help other Humsurfers by rating the comments.

Click on the Thumbs-Up icon for the comments you like and Thumbs-Down icon on the comments you dislike. This helps in keeping relevant comments at the top. You can also Flag offensive comments for immediate action from the moderators.

How are "Humsurfers" ranked?

Humsurfers are ranked on the basis of their contributions to the community. Contributions are measured by Karma points.

How do I accumulate Karma?

Your Karma points can be increased by helping the community by the following means.

• Stamping on the submissions you liked!
• Commenting on submissions and helping the community
• Flagging on the bad submissions or comments and helping to keep the site clean.

The following activities can decrease your Karma.

• Posting bad content which gets flagged or marked as spam.
• Stamping on the bad stories.
• Flagging on the good submissions or comments.

You can submit if you are a registered user. Registration is free and takes no time.

Submissions are the nerve center activity of Humsurfer. It works at its best when people contribute submissions to it.
