Tele means ‘Distance’ and vision represents ‘vision’. Thus in general television represents seeing something from a distance. Broadcasting means sending information in all direction. The picture or scene in the form of optical is viewed by us. This information is transmitted by means of broad casting. For doing this we have to convert the data in the form of electrical signal before transmitting by means of broadcasting. At the receiver side we have to convert the electrical signal in to optical signal to view the sent information on the screen. Camera tubes are used to convert the optical information in to electrical form and picture tubes are used to convert the electrical signal in to optical signal. The picture tube forms the main part of the television which converts the feed electrical signal to an optical image which can be viewed on the screen. The picture to be transmitted is made up of a large number of black and white elementary areas. They represent the optical characteristics of a picture and called as picture elements or pixels. Many number of these picture elements combines to form a whole picture. In case of TV transmitting we have to transmit both audio and picture elements.
