How to Live Abroad

Deciding to move abroad will be one of the most exciting experiences in your life. If you want to learn how to start planning a big move abroad, continue reading to discover a few of the first decisions which you’ll need to make.

How to Live Abroad:

Research possible destinations to move to:

Before you start packing up your life in order to move overseas, it’s a smart idea to research a few possible destinations to move to. In order to find out which destinations will offer you a visa or permanent residence. As each country has different requirements when it comes to immigration and some countries are easier to move to, than others.

Before you make a final decision, it’s well worth visiting a few of the destinations on your short list. As if you spend a couple of weeks renting a home in each country, you’ll get a real taste of what it would be like to make a permanent move.

Make new friends:

In order to quickly integrate into your new community, it’s well worth trying to make a few new friends. As having a support system is critical to leading a happy, fulfilled life and will ensure that you don’t miss your friends from your home country too much. One way to make new friends is to join local community groups such as a running club, a sports club or a locally run dance class or cooking class. Alternatively most destinations also offer ex pat meetups, where you can bound with other individuals who have migrated to your chosen city.

Also introduce yourself to your immediate neighbors. As if you’re lucky they may take you under your wing and may teach you about your new community and their culture’s unique traditions and customs.

Ensure that you have a reliable source of income:

If you already have enough passive income to live abroad without working skip this step. However, if you still need to make a living in your new home country, you may want to start job hunting online, before you move to your new home. Alternatively you may want to start your own business abroad. As an example, you may want to purchase a property which you can run as a bed and breakfast. Which you’ll be able to market to everyone you know in your current city. Who may want to visit you when you move overseas.

Create a budget:

Once you move to your new home city, it’s well worth finding out how much different items and services cost. So that you’ll be able to create a realistic budget. As examples, you’ll want to figure out how much rent costs, if you don’t purchase a house as well as how much groceries and gas cost.

Find out about your tax obligations:

Also ensure to talk to an accountant about your tax obligations. As you may or may not be required to pay tax in two countries. Depending on which country you plan on migrating to and your home country.

So if you’re excited about the prospect of packing your bags and moving overseas, make sure that you tick off all of the tasks which are listed above. In order to plan a smooth transition.
